Ben Vautier, Fluxus, Mail art

decided to look for the author of this quote and found it was Ben Vautier
He was born on the 18th July 1935, known as Ben.
He discovered Yves Klein and the Nouveau Realisme in the 50s
Joined the Fluxus art movemement.
Active in mail art
started text based paintings known as 'écritures'
In 1981 he came up with the term 'Figuration Libre' for the French art movement during the 80s.

Yves Klein - nouveau realisme, performance art, pop art, minimal art.

Nouveau Realisme - saw the world as something they could take parts from and incorporate them into works

Fluxus was an international, interdisciplinary community of artists, composers, & poets during the 1960s and 70s who engaged in experimental art performances which emphasised the artistic process over the finished product. Fluxus is known for experimental contributions to different artistic media.
They produced performance events that included noise/dada music, concrete poetry, visual art, urban planning, architecture, literature. many fluxus artists share the same anti-commercial/anti-art ideas.
Movement was heavily influenced by John Cage
Reminds me of Andy Warhol's exploding inevitable thing

Mail Art - sending small art pieces through the post. can include postcards, paintings, collages, photos, music, poetry, anything that can be sent via post.
would b cool to send canvas around and get people to add to it

Figuration Libre - French equivalent of bad painting and neo-expressionism
